The CGC houses both Macintosh and PCs. Most Macintosh computers are dual boot so they can run Windows 7 and OS X. All systems have an identical setup of software in their respective operating systems. DAAP Staff personnel is available for assistance during standard
lab hours. The CGC can also be contacted at 556-DAAP (3227).
Logging In
To use the computers in the CGC, simply sign in with your
DAAPSpace username and password. If your password doesn't work, please see someone at the Help Desk to assist you. Only DAAP students, or students taking a DAAP class, have access to our computers. However, anyone can utilize our
plotting machines.
Switching Operating Systems
If a computer is already booted up to an operating system you do not wish to use, simply log in with your
DAAPSpace account and restart the computer. Once the computer reboots, the introduction page should appear. Currently, this should only be a problem if the computer was booted up into Windows.
Printing
Printing is a little different in the CGC since we use a print server to handle the many print requests we get throughout the day. You can read more about how to print in the CGC
here.
Software List
A list of all the software on CGC computers can be found
here. Please note that when you log into CGC computers, you will not have administrative permissions. This means that you will be unable to install new software onto the machines. This is so we can keep all of the machines uncluttered, efficient, and fast.
Using External Media
To use a CD/DVD on one of the computers in the lab, you simply have to insert it into the CD/DVD ROM by hitting the arrow button on the keyboard (located next to the F12 key) this will open the CD/DVD ROM tray, and then you can insert the media like normal. In machines without a tower CDs and DVDs are loaded directly into the right side of the computer monitor.
Problems
Should you encounter any problems while using a CGC computer (be it hardware related, network related, or otherwise) please inform a CGC employee immediately. The employee can help you to open a support ticket and get the problem fixed quickly.
